The biopic of the King of Pop, Michael Jackson, will hit theaters worldwide in 2025. Directed by Antoine Fuqua, of The Protector franchise, Seven Men and a Fate and Emancipation, the film will star Jaafar Jackson, the music star’s nephew.

Simply titled Michael, the film will bring audiences “an honest and fascinating portrait of the brilliant but complicated man who became the King of Pop. The film presents his triumphs and tragedies on an epic, cinematic scale – from his human side and personal struggles to his undeniable creative genius, exemplified by his most iconic performances.” This is the promise of the synopsis of the work.

Fuqua told the American magazine Entertainment Weekly what the production will be like. “Just telling the facts as we know them, about the artist, about the man, about the human being. In short, the good, the bad and the ugly,” he said

This is Jaafar Jackson’s first major film role. In the same interview, the director said that his resemblance to his uncle is “striking”. “He sounds like him, he dances like him, he sings. It’s really impressive,” he said.

The film’s producer is Graham King, from Bohemian Rhapsody, and the script was written by John Logan, from The Invention of Hugo Cabret According to Variety magazine, production begins on January 22nd. Distributed worldwide by Universal, the premiere is scheduled for April 18, 2025.

According to the artist’s website, Jaafar wanted to be a professional golfer, but growing up in a family of artists, he also ended up following the path of music. At the age of 27, he has even recorded a music video in Brazil, just like his uncle.

But while Michael Jackson did the iconic filming in Pelourinho, in Salvador, and Morro de Santa Marta, in Rio de Janeiro, Jaafar went to another location in the capital, Vidigal.
