Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, the producers of the James Bond films, have reached a deal with Amazon MGM Studios after years of control.

Within this collaboration, Amazon Studios will have creative control over the film series, reports the BBC.

This means that Wilson and Broccoli are taking a step back. The Broccoli family has been involved with James Bond for years. Barbara’s father, Albert Broccoli, bought the film rights to the James Bond books together with his business partner in 1961.

Wilson, his stepson, took over together with Barbara. The family produced 25 films with secret agent 007 in the lead role.

The collaboration comes at a remarkable time: a new Bond is still being sought.

The last Bond film, No Time To Die, dates from 2021. It was the last film with Daniel Craig as James Bond.

In December, there was still talk of a dispute between Broccoli and Amazon Studios. Broccoli reportedly called Amazon’s management idiots, according to the Wall Street Journal. She no longer wants to make Bond films with the studio.

This step gives Amazon Studios more room to start new projects around James Bond.

For example, there are now possibilities to start a television series.

That could create room for a female James Bond, something that has been discussed for years.
