Kristin Davis didn’t always feel safe when sex scenes were being filmed in the early years of the American series Sex and the City, the 59-year-old actress tells People. “I found it quite uncomfortable.”
Davis played the conservative Charlotte in the popular series about four friends in New York.
The series contains a lot of sex and openness about relationships. Sex in the City aired from 1998 to 2004.
“When it came to sexuality, we had no idea what we were doing,” says Davis.
“I felt confused by the amount of intimate scenes and wondered if they were necessary.
If there had been an intimacy coordinator, there would have been a lot more discussion about the scenes, but that wasn’t the case then.”
“I didn’t feel protected. Sometimes I would hide in my dressing room to call my manager in Los Angeles, sometimes at 2 a.m.,” the American actress continues.
She also looked with some jealousy at her colleague Kim Cattrall, who played the free and unbounded Samantha Jones.
“She had no fear and knew very well how to protect herself during such scenes.”
Over time, the actresses were better guided. “It was much more about our feelings then.”
