The Broadway play Good Night, and Good Luck starring George Clooney has raised over $4 million (3.5 million euros) in its first week of play. Never before has a play on Broadway yielded so much in its opening week, reports Deadline.
The production, directed by Tony Award-winner David Cromer, is playing at New York’s Winter Garden Theatre. The amount was raised with eight performances.
The play is an adaptation of the 2005 film of the same name, which also featured Clooney. Set in the 1950s, the story revolves around American journalist Edward R. Murrow’s struggle against disinformation and political fear-mongering.
Good Night, and Good Luck is nominated for five Tony Awards, including one for best leading actor for Clooney. The awards ceremony will take place in June.
To reach a younger audience, two thousand tickets have been made available through ticket platform TodayTix for schoolchildren and students, including journalism students from New York.
