Harvey Weinstein Asks For Transfer
Harvey Weinstein has filed an emergency request to be transferred from Rikers Prison to Bellevue Hospital in New York.
The request was filed because of the serious health problems of the 73-year-old former film producer, reports the American entertainment site TMZ.
According to documents from his legal team, Weinstein accuses the staff at Rikers Prison of not providing him with proper medical care.
He claims that one of his conditions was misdiagnosed, which he says led to a deterioration of his health. Weinstein’s lawyer calls the conditions in the prison a nightmare.
Weinstein is said to be struggling with various health problems, including cancer, diabetes, chest pain, sleep apnea, thyroid problems, obesity, anemia and high blood pressure.
The former producer is currently on trial in New York for rape and sexual assault. In 2020, he was sentenced to 23 years in prison, but that sentence was later overturned on appeal due to criticism of the witness statements.
The case is now being retried.
In 2023, Weinstein was sentenced to 16 years in prison for raping a woman in Beverly Hills.
