Mark Hoppus, bassist and co-founder of blink-182, has struggled with suicidal thoughts in the past.

The punk rocker writes this in his recently published autobiography Fahrenheit-182.

Hoppus calls the temporary breakup of blink-182 in 2005 a low point in his life. When blink fell apart, I lost everything.

I lost my direction, my self-confidence, my identity, writes the 53-year-old musician.

According to Hoppus himself, he sank deeper and deeper. I noticed that I was close to rock bottom when I started to find comfort in the thought of suicide. If it gets bad enough, I can always kill myself.

Eventually, Hoppus decided to seek professional help. I started talking to a psychiatrist who prescribed me medication. That helped enormously.

It gave me the space to catch my breath. And it allowed me to say to myself: you’re acting like a dick, stop it.

The American punk rock band blink-182 is best known in the Netherlands for the hits All The Small Things and Feeling This.

In addition to Hoppus, Travis Barker and Tom DeLonge are also part of the group.
