The film A Minecraft Movie has already grossed more than twice as much as the film cost in its opening weekend.
More than 300 million dollars (270 million euros) were collected worldwide.
Of that amount, 157 million dollars (about 140 million euros) were raised in the United States, reports film website Collider.
On its opening day, the film about the popular computer game Minecraft already grossed more than The Super Mario Bros.
Movie in 2023. No film based on a game had a more successful opening weekend than A Minecraft Movie.
With more than 300 million copies sold, Minecraft is the most popular game ever. In the game, users can build their own world, without a predetermined goal.
In the film, the four main characters – Garrett, Henry, Natalie and Dawn – are transported to the world of Minecraft. The four must survive and find a way back home in the cubist world.
The film stars Jack Black and Jason Momoa, among others.
