Singer Sean Kingston and his mother Janice Turner were found guilty of fraud by a court in the United States on Friday.

The two will hear on July 11 whether they will have to spend years in prison.

The total fraud amounts to more than 1 million dollars (approximately 924,000 euros).

Kingston and his mother were found guilty of four counts of fraud and preparation of fraud. Each count carries a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison, Variety reports.

Kingston, whose real name is Kisean Anderson, is on house arrest with electronic monitoring until he hears his sentence.

It is unclear whether he will have to wear an ankle monitor. Turner will have to wait out her sentence in prison.

The two pressured companies to deliver expensive items that had not yet been paid for. These companies include a jewelry retailer, a bed company and a car dealership.

According to prosecutors, they used false documents stating that they had already paid. Turner stated that she delayed payments for luxury items to protect her son from fraudsters.

One of the key pieces of evidence was a message Kingston, 35, sent to his 61-year-old mother:

I told you to make a fake receipt.” He then sent: “So it looks like the transfer will be there in a few days.”

Kingston, who scored a worldwide hit in 2007 with the song Beautiful Girls, and his mother were arrested on May 23 last year after a raid on the singer’s home.
