Selena Gomez: Women Get More Criticism

Selena Gomez believes that women are judged more harshly than men on social media. The 32-year-old actress and singer bases her opinion partly on her own experiences.

I think it’s pretty extreme. I don’t think it’s a surprise to anyone that women feel much more intensely about their appearance, their clothes, and basically everything, Gomez said in the podcast On Purpose with Jay Shetty, where she was a guest with her fiancé Benny Blanco.

She talked about the stress she experiences on the red carpet, for example. When I’m getting ready for an event, 90 percent of the time I’m just thinking: I hope I can sit down quickly after the red carpet photo.

Gomez admits that she can better ignore negative reactions on social media. But there are so many things that affect me that I can’t ignore.

It really doesn’t add anything to your life, but it’s just so hard. For example, it seems like everyone is concerned about who you date as a woman.

Reactions to her weight also have an impact, the actress says. I think that made me a little bitter. I feel bad saying that, but it’s true.

Gomez is one of the most popular people on Instagram.

The actress and singer was the first woman to reach 400 million followers. In 2019, she said she deleted the app from her phone because of the impact it was having on her mental health.
