Martin Garrix sings a chorus and a verse in his new song Angels For Each Other.
This is partly thanks to U2 singer Bono, the Dutch DJ and producer told De 538 Middagshow.
According to Garrix, the singer of the Irish band has been encouraging him for years to release a song with his own voice. Bono has helped me enormously with singing techniques, breathing and the lyrics.
He has been saying for at least three or four years that I should make a song with my own vocals.
Garrix previously recorded demos and provided background vocals for his songs, but always wrote his music with another singer in mind.
This song took shape and I thought the concept was special. I went way outside my comfort zone. But I thought: if I don’t do it now, it will never happen, the 28-year-old artist said.
The DJ emphasized that he does not plan to focus entirely on singing. It’s not like I’m only going to sing my own songs from now on. I want to keep it special, Garrix explained.
If the song feels good and the melodies fit my voice, then I’m open to it.
