Paul Young was injured five months ago during a holiday on the Greek island of Santorini.

After falling from an outside staircase, the British singer needed major surgery and multiple blood transfusions, he said in an interview with the Daily Mirror newspaper.

It had been drizzling a bit. When I came down the stairs and put my foot on the first step, my leg slipped out from under me.

I fell and my leg cracked immediately when I hit the stairs, says the 69-year-old Young.

After the fall, the singer was immediately taken to hospital. There it turned out that his left thigh was broken in several places.

Young was given a metal pin in his leg. Because the surgical wound kept opening, the artist needed multiple blood transfusions.

The first few days I lost so much blood that they had to change the sheets every day. A lot of people came to look at the wound and they all spoke Greek, so I had no idea what they were saying.

I was often half-conscious because of the blood loss. It was a scary time.

Five months later, Young can walk without crutches. According to the singer, he has had accidents before, such as during a quad bike ride in Australia where he broke two ribs.

I just can’t believe I got the biggest fracture of my life when I was just on my way to breakfast.

Young, known for songs such as Love of the Common People and Come Back and Stay, has several tours planned.

He will perform in the United Kingdom from early April and tour the United States from June.
