The death of actor Gene Hackman (95) and Betsy Arakawa (63) is still considered suspicious, the police reported on Thursday. That is why a search warrant has been issued.
The couple and one of their three dogs were found dead in their home on Wednesday.
The death of the couple is now suspicious enough to require a thorough search and investigation. This is stated in a search warrant from the sheriff, Reuters writes.
Their bodies are said to have been there for some time and are in a state of decomposition.
Authorities do not suspect malicious intent in the deaths. However, the exact cause of death has not yet been determined, according to the sheriff’s statement.
According to the authorities, it is suspicious that the front door of Hackman’s home in Santa Fe, located in the southern state of New Mexico, was open.
It is also remarkable that their other two dogs are alive.
There was also an open bottle of pills on the counter, with pills scattered around it. Some of the pills were found around Hackman’s wife, 63-year-old pianist Betsy Arakawa.
According to authorities, there were no obvious signs of a gas leak, while Hackman’s family suspected possible carbon monoxide poisoning.
Arakawa was found in the bathroom, while Hackman was in another room. The dead dog was found in his kennel.
The couple had lived in New Mexico since 2004. That was the year the Hollywood actor retired.
Hackman and Arakawa married in 1991.
