Cameron Diaz has had to deal with “layers of inappropriate behavior” in her acting career. The actress says in the Netflix podcast Skip Intro that she now feels more “safe and secure” thanks to the MeToo movement.
Diaz recently returned to Hollywood after a ten-year hiatus. The actress, who currently stars in the Netflix film Back in Action, now feels more secure than she did earlier in her career. “The industry is so different.
The MeToo movement has absolutely changed everything. You can really feel it. You walk onto a film set and it’s different.”
The actress says that there used to be “layers of inappropriateness” that she and other women “had to endure.” Diaz has had to be “strict” and set boundaries at times in her career.
According to the Charlie’s Angels actress, it wasn’t just people in higher positions who displayed inappropriate behavior. “There was always someone on the set who you thought, Oh God, here he comes again,” Diaz says.
Things are different in Hollywood these days. The actress, who broke through in 1994 with her role in The Mask, had a conversation with someone from HR before her last film. They talked about “what is appropriate and inappropriate behavior”.
The actress was also referred to a Netflix phone number where problems can be reported anonymously.
“I thought: wow, that’s great.”
