Dutch international baseball player Kenley Jansen is swapping his club Boston Red Sox for Los Angeles Angels. According to news agency Reuters, the right-handed pitcher is signing a one-year contract with the new club.

The 37-year-old Jansen will start his sixteenth season in the American Major League (MLB). The new season starts on March 18.

Jansen is no stranger to Los Angeles. The baseball player born in Curaçao started his professional career as a catcher with the Los Angeles Dodgers. He played there for twelve seasons.

Jansen was later converted into a pitcher. After an intermediate step with the Atlanta Braves, he ended up with the Boston Red Sox. He is now swapping this club for the Los Angeles Angels. There, Jansen will earn the equivalent of 9.6 million euros in one year.

Jansen has been one of the best-paid Dutch athletes for years. His new annual salary is slightly lower than that of Virgil van Dijk, who earns around 13 million euros at Liverpool. Both are in the shadow of Max Verstappen. The Red Bull driver earns around 67 million euros annually.

There is a chance that Jansen will participate with the Netherlands in the World Baseball Classic next year, the baseball World Cup in which professionals from the MLB are allowed to participate. The Dutch team has already qualified for this tournament.
