Denzel Washington “almost bit off” his tongue a few months ago and has difficulty speaking as a result.

The 70-year-old actor said this in an interview with The New York Times.
“I almost bit off half my tongue a few months ago. It affects my speech. It forces me to speak more slowly,” said Washington, who is known for his smooth talk.

The actor did not provide details about how he almost bit off his tongue, but said that his tongue has been swollen since the accident. “I don’t think it will ever heal.

The accident, in which Washington also lost a tooth, has led to problems in preparing for his role in the Broadway show Othello by William Shakespeare.
