Naked Gun Director David Zucker Critical
David Zucker, director of the original The Naked Gun, has expressed his displeasure with the trailer for the remake.
He calls watching the trailer an experience he would rather have avoided.
The director adds to TMZ that he was not approached by producer Paramount for advice on the remake and that he will not be watching the film.
In 2018, he and his partners submitted a script for a new Naked Gun film, but did not receive a response from the studio.
Malcolm LaVergne, who was an attorney for O.J. Simpson, thinks a joke about his former client in the trailer is a good one.
He calls the reference to Simpson’s role as Agent Nordberg from the original films a nice acknowledgement, although he does say that not everyone will get the joke.
The reboot of The Naked Gun starring Liam Neeson and Pamela Anderson also plays a role in the film.
The first Naked Gun film came out in 1988. Two more films followed, in 1991 and 1994. The film series, which was full of slapstick and absurdist jokes, was played by Leslie Nielsen.
Priscilla Presley and Simpson also had roles in the earlier films.
