Green Day Gets Its Own Star
The American rock band Green Day will receive their own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame on May 1. The trio will become the 2,810th addition to the famous boulevard in Los Angeles.
Serena Williams and Ryan Reynolds will be present as speakers during the ceremony. The former tennis player and the actor will give a speech in honor of the band.
Green Day was founded in 1986 and broke through in the early nineties with the album Dookie. The group consists of singer and guitarist Billie Joe Armstrong, bassist Mike Dirnt and drummer Tré Cool.
In 2015, Green Day was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
The selection for a star on the Walk of Fame is done via an official procedure. Where previously a special committee was responsible for the nominations, fans and production companies can now also nominate candidates.
This is done via a form, after which a committee makes the final choice.
