Aimee Lou Wood finds the Saturday Night Live parody of her character from The White Lotus mean and unfunny.

The American sketch show mocked the 31-year-old British woman’s heavy accent and her teeth, among other things.

Wood responded in her Instagram Stories on Sunday to an interview she recently gave. In it, she stated that Mike White, the creator of The White Lotus, had to fight to get her in the HBO series.

It was really meant to be nice, but all I heard in my head was: HBO didn’t want me. And I know why, because I’m ugly.’ Mike had to beg to get ‘the ugly girl’ in his series, the British actress said.

That wasn’t actually the case and Wood wanted to correct that, although she did make a side note about SNL. No one from HBO called me ugly! I only said that because of my own imposter syndrome.

People with imposter syndrome doubt their own qualities and are afraid that others will discover their so-called imperfections. But now that I’m being honest, I thought the SNL sketch was mean and unfunny, the actress continued.

It’s such a shame because I loved watching the show until a few weeks ago. Yeah, make fun of me – that’s what the show is all about. But surely there’s a smarter, more nuanced, and less cheesy way to do that?, Wood wondered out loud.

The White Lotus actress went on to say that it’s not the fault of actress Sarah Squirm, who parodies Wood on SNL, that she disapproves of the sketch. Don’t hate her, hate the concept.

A few hours after her Saturday Night Live post, Wood shared an update.

I got an apology from SNL, she wrote alongside a selfie in which her eyes and teeth were extra enlarged using a filter.
