Billie Jean King is the first female athlete to receive a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. The star was unveiled in Los Angeles on Monday in the presence of the 81-year-old former tennis player.
Former basketball player Magic Johnson and actress Jamie Lee Curtis were also present at the unveiling. The two, like King, have their own star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
King became the 2,807th person to receive a star on Hollywood Boulevard in Los Angeles.
The stars are intended for Americans who have made a significant contribution to the entertainment industry in the United States.
King is the first woman to receive a star in the Sports Entertainment category, a category that has existed since 2023. The most important thing is that I am not the last, she said decisively at the unveiling.
The former tennis player was the number one women’s champion for many years and won a total of twelve Grand Slam titles.
She won Wimbledon six times, among other things. In 2020, the Fed Cup, the women’s version of the Davis Cup, was renamed the Billie Jean King Cup.
