Dutch international baseball player Jurickson Profar has been suspended for eighty games in Major League Baseball (MLB).

The Atlanta Braves player has been caught using a banned substance. The suspension is effective immediately.

The 32-year-old Profar tested positive for the pregnancy hormone hCG, a substance banned in the MLB. HCG is a testosterone-stimulating substance that is also on the doping list of the doping authority WADA.

This is the hardest day of my professional career, Profar writes in a response to his suspension.

This is particularly painful for me, because everyone who knows me or has seen me play knows that I have a deep passion for baseball. There is nothing I would rather do.

Profar writes that he wants to apologize to his club, his teammates and his fans. He says he tested negative eight times last season.

I would never deliberately use a banned substance, but I take full responsibility and accept the decision of the MLB.

Profar recently transferred from San Diego Padres to Atlanta Braves. The baseball player of the Netherlands Kingdom team had one of his best years in the MLB last year.

He was the eighth Dutchman ever selected for the All Star Game.
