US Postal Service Rejects Millions of Packages

The millions of packages from Chinese stores like Temu and SHEIN that arrive every day will not reach American buyers for the time being. The US Postal Service has decided to refuse the packages now that President Donald Trump is demanding additional checks. The EU also wants to check Chinese goods more strictly.

In recent weeks, Trump has already imposed import duties on products from various countries, focusing on China among others.

In a presidential decree, he decided to impose not only a higher import duty on products, but also barriers for cheap packages from China and Hong Kong. Until recently, these were exempt from checks and import duties if the value was up to 800 dollars (769 euros).

That exemption will disappear for the time being. And that is a hard blow for American consumers who have millions of products shipped from China to the US every day. These include cheap items and clothing from well-known online stores like Temu and SHEIN.

The additional checks are too much for the US Postal Service (USPS). That is why the company is temporarily stopping the packages, USPS reports.

Also extra European checks
The European Union will also tighten the rules for the import of cheap Chinese goods, according to reports from the Reuters news agency. The aim is to keep out products that do not meet European standards.

Packages with a value of up to 150 euros may now be imported into the EU from China without checks and duties. But in fact, there is an import duty of 12 percent on clothing, for example. However, this duty is not collected on all kinds of individual packages from, for example, SHEIN.

There will also be extra checks on cheap Chinese products in Europe, Reuters reports. China would then have to pay for this via a levy.
